Who needs home care?

Anyone needing help with their daily living activities and want to stay at home rather than be institutionalized or placed in a facility. It could also include those people who live with and provide care for a loved one and need a respite or time off from their caregiving responsibilities.

Who do I contact to have care started?

Upon your request for care, we will immediately schedule a free initial assessment or evaluation with you and your loved one. At this initial assessment, a professional will meet with you to discuss the levels of care that meet your requirements. If hands-on Personal Care is anticipated, a Nurse will always perform the initial evaluation. A Plan of Care will be developed for services going forward and we will work with you closely to coordinate schedules and match a caregiver to your needs. Our objective is to meet your needs.

What are your hours of operation?

Our regular business hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 5:30. We have an emergency/mobile line for anyone wishing to contact us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That number is recorded on the answering machine.

Is care available on a Part-time, Full-time or Live-in basis?

Yes, we provide Sitters, Companions, Home Health Aides and Certified Nurse Assistants who are available part-time, full-time or on a live-in basis.

How are your caregivers recruited and what are the requirements to be hired?

We get caregiver referrals from other caregivers and those who hear about our agency from other sources and wish to be part of our growth. Each person applying for a job at Better Living must have at least one year of caregiving experience working with the elderly. Additionally, all caregivers are scrutinized through an interview process and must pass thorough criminal background and reference checks.

Are the caregivers bonded and insured?

Yes, we carry a comprehensive bond and liability insurance that covers all our caregivers, our clients and our agency. It gives our clients peace of mind when doing business with us.

What are the minimum and maximum hours that can be arranged for care?

There are no maximum hours. There is a 10-hour weekly minimum. However, we make an exception if only a bath is required.

What are the usual duties of a caregiver?

Different caregivers perform many different duties depending on client’s needs and the skills and certification of the caregiver. Please click on the Home Care Services tab to see a list of services Better Living offers.

If I am dissatisfied with my current caregiver, will a substitute be available and how soon?

If our client is not satisfied with the assigned caregiver, we will provide another within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the circumstances. We are so sure that you will find working with our agency a pleasure that, if you don’t, we are willing to provide a day of care for free.

What if my assigned caregiver is ill or does not show up, will a substitute be available and how soon?

If your caregiver is ill or, for some reason, is unable to show up for work, a substitute will be made available usually in about 2 hours after we receive notification of the situation. An advantage of using our agency is that extra staff is available at all times.

Will I be locked into a contract with Better Living?

No. Better Living requires no long term commitment for our service. However, cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance of a scheduled visit. Better Living reserves the right to charge for a scheduled visit if insufficient notice is given.
